Hay Fever

Hay fever is an allergic flu that can be seen because of dusts at home and on the streets or dusts of chemicals in the workplaces besides pollens.

Summer flu is different from the grippe known (virus infections), it is an allergy developing against particles in the air as hay fever and contrary to grippe.  Hay fever and summer flu are common names used for situation known as allergic rhinitis in the medical language (Rhinitis is inflammation in the nose).

Each year a lot people catch allergic rhinitis.  Some escape lightly, it is very severe for the other, it prevents their working and destroys their life quality.

Another method used successfully for treatment of hay fever is the method of desensitization-hyposensitization.  Hypersensitivity of the person is suppressed in this method.  Desensitization is performed as follows: After the type of pollen or house dust to which the person is sensitive is detected; an extract that contains this dust type is prepared, and this extract is injected at certain intervals and in increasing dosages subcutaneously.  This treatment continues for a period of one year.  When maximal dose is reached, injection is repeated once in a month in the remaining part of one year.  In this way problems of allergic person are resolved.  The way desensitization is effective is revealed in the recent years.  Blood IgE level decreases, secretion of histamine reduces and amount of IgG antibodies increases as a result of this treatment.  Increase of IgG amount is effective in two ways: IgG makes allergenic in the body ineffective. On the other hand, when IgG is present in nig amount it influences “Reminding” events of the immunity system.  When IgG meets with the allergenic again, it reduces reminding events aiming IgE formation.  This causes less IgE formation.  Another treatment method of allergic problems is drug treatment.  We previously indicated adverse effect of agent called histamine in the development of allergic problem.  The purpose of the treatment is to render this negative agent ineffective.  With this purpose, anti-histaminic drugs are utilized.  Antihistaminic drugs prevent adverse effects of histamine.  These drugs and their action systems are described in the “Pharmacognosy” section of our website.  Other drugs used for allergic cases are drugs with “Cortisol”.
