Snoring and Sleep Apnea
Snoring and Sleep Apnea
The most common reason of snoring, which is described as noisy voice an individual makes during sleeping and observed in adults, is enlargement and prolapse of soft palate and uvula, and these muscles lose their tension and obstruct respiratory tract and uvula vibrates during sleeping. However, all problems that narrow upper airway from nose to vocal cords (allergic flu, inclination of nasal bone, sinusitis, and structural anomalies in lower and upper jaws, too big tongue) may cause snoring. Snoring in children is mostly indication of tonsil of nasal passage. All cases of snoring indicate narrowing in the airway. If narrowing is very serious, airway may be completely close. This causes pauses of breathing during sleep.
Snoring is observed when air flow can not pass through your throat freely during sleeping. Snoring maybe a social problem, since its disturbs the others in the environment, however it may be sign of a disease where external breathing is suspended during sleeping (sleep apnea). As a result of blockage formed in the throat , suspensions are observed in breathing. These suspensions are short-term, and cause awakening during sleep which will not be recalled. Consequently following may be encountered:
- Sleepiness all day long
- Wake up without getting enough sleep
- Headaches in the mornings
- Fall asleep while driving a car, at work, watching TV
- Nervousness
- Memory and concentration disorders
- Hypertension and heart troubles.
Snoring and sleep apnea can be treated. To change way of living, medical devices and surgery are among the treatment options. Treatment of snoring and sleep apnea prevents the disturbance you may cause in your environment and also provides a healthy life.
While respiratory tract of a healthy individual is open, soft palate drops and obstructs the respiratory tract during sleeping. Snoring and sleep apnea are mostly seen in individuals who have overweight, enlarged tonsils and adenoid, narrow throat structure and who use alcohol, tranquilizers and sleeping aids and in adults above middle age.
Consequences of snoring and sleep apnea:
- Acute snoring
- Headache in the mornings
- Heart problems and hypertension
- Gaining excess weight rapidly
- Psychological problems, depression, lack of sexual drive
- Concentration impairment
- Excessive perspiration
- Lack of sleep, feeling tired during the day
- Frequent widdling (thamuria), dehydration
- Irregular and uncomfortable sleep
- Falling asleep by day
- Observation of suspension of breathing by others during sleeping
- Waking up because of respiratory distress
- Getting up with dryness of mouth and throat pain
HOW ARE SNORING AND SLEEP APNEA TREATED BY MEANS OF SNORING PROSTHESIS?
Snoring prosthesis worn during sleeping opens the respiratory tract, which is obstructed because of muscles in the esophagus region that lost their tension, by giving an adequate position to the lower jaw and prevents snoring and sleep apnea. Muscles that lost their tension regain their power, obstruction in the respiratory tract disappears; thus snoring and sleep apnea are permanently treated.
ADVANTAGES OF SNORING PROSTHESIS IN COMPARISON TO OTHER TREATMENT METHODS
- It can be applied without any surgical intervention
- An alternative treatment option for patients who reject surgical intervention
- Obtaining recovery indications more quickly in comparison to other treatment options
- Proven efficiency
- Very short preparation time
- Patients can tolerate the treatment easily
- Permanent treatment
